Coachella 2009

COACHELLA, I MISS THEE ALREADY ::

Last weekend was Coachella. It was the best weekend I’ve had in as long as I can remember. Phenomenal. The music was great, but there was also just a ton of interesting people, weird art installations, and general curiosities.

About the shows: almost everyone I saw was great (with a few exceptions), but my top three were Beirut, Late of the Pier, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Beirut obviously plays amazing music, and their live show was spot on. Late of the Pier put out one of my favorite albums last year and at Coachella they had everyone dancing their faces off. There were a couple dudes in front of me that I’m pretty sure hadn’t heard them before; it was great watching them get super stoked about different parts of each song. And The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were my favorite on the main stage. It’s often tough for me to get excited by a main stage act because it’s not nearly as intimate, but they were pro, they seemed super into it, and Karen O’s weird mirror outfit didn’t bother me all that much.

In short, the countdown to Coachella 2010 has already begun.
